Very Pinteresting!

I’m still addicted to Pinterest.

Are you?

It’s a great way to wind down at the end of a busy day – especially when SuperMan is watching something on TV that I don’t care about.

I feel like Johnny Five when I’m browsing – “Input! Input!”

So, I thought I’d share some of my more recent pins – things that got me thinking about how I could do them myself:

Very-Pin-Teresting_thumb.jpg

  • LOVE this vertical garden. I was thinking how neat it would be to do your herbs this way – especially if you are limited in outdoor/deck space.
  • And I’ve always wanted to make a terrarium and for some reason lately I’ve had a hankering to make a succulent garden. I may have to give this a try once school’s out and the kids need an afternoon project.
  • I’ve developed a love of Mediterranean food and Thai food and I’m now obsessed with finding recipes to make these delicacies at home – like these falafel wraps, chicken tikka masala, coconut curry chicken,  and Thai fried noodles.
  • Some Project Life inspiration – here and here and here and some journal card bonanza!
  • I’m making this pasta salad for lunch today – I’ll let you know how it tastes.

What are your favorite things you’ve pinned lately?

Please share! I’d love to see!

On the needles

I’ve knocked out a few washcloths and now, after a little struggle with a pattern, I’m off and running with the afghan I wanted to make – (this is the pattern on my Pinterest board)

IMG_2441

I’m making it with a chunky yarn – it’s so soft and cuddly. I can’t wait to finish! Maybe I’ll be done in time for next winter! (ha!)

I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

What’re you working on?

I’m not a fashionista, even if I wanted to be

I’ll admit it. I’m not a fashionista.

Never have been.

Probably never will be.

I love to look “smart” and to dress nicely but sometimes I think my idea of what is “nice” or “smart” is just a little off from what is fashionable these days.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect much here – I’m  a middle-aged momma for Pete’s sake. I don’t want to look like a Desperate Housewife (even if I had the financial means to do so).

But I do want to look put together – and look like I am at least somewhat aware of the current trends in fashion, even if I am not a slave to them.  I work from home so there is really very little reason on most days to get out of my yoga pants and sweats, but I don’t think it is a good idea to fall into that trap long term.

I like looking nice. I want to look nice for the girls and SuperMan when they come home in the afternoons.  And I think I am more productive at work when I take the time to get myself together in the mornings. Kind of puts me in the right frame of mind.

And I most definitely don’t want to become a frumpy middle-aged momma. No way. No how.

I got an idea from a fellow blogger not too long ago… (hi, Daenel!)

She mentioned that she pins outfits she likes and then uses that to shop her closet and try to come up with similar outfits.

Isn’t that just the coolest idea?

She also posts a “What I Wore Wednesday” weekly post that I can’t wait to see each week. She has the greatest, quirky (self-proclaimed) style. I love seeing her outfits and wondering if I could pull them off, too. She’s inspired me.

To that end, I’ve gotten rather addicted to looking at the “Fashion” category in Pinterest. Granted, it’s kind of like looking at million-dollar homes and wishing that one day I’d have the means to live that way.  Most of what is on those “fashion” pins is aimed at a generation twenty years younger (or more) than me and for gals who are either not moms or have flatter tummies than I have Winking smile

as well as bigger shopping budgets than I do.

So, I’ve started pinning some things to challenge me to step outside my usual outfit combos.  I want to see if I can come up with some new outfits to wear without having to buy something new.

I’ll let you know how it goes –

In the meantime I thought I’d share some of my current favorite pins with you – (click on the picture to pin)

^ LOVE this – casual, yet fashionable & chic – especially the sweater &  necklace (and handbag!)

^ And loving the sweater, earrings & shoes above – I need to get some ballet flats this spring.

(can you see a trend here? – jeans, jeans, jeans)

^ This one I am in love with the necklace and top.

And I LOVE the lace top below. I bought an off-white lace top last year at T J Maxx and have yet to wear it because I didn’t know what to do with it in spite of being in love with it – this outfit gives me an idea or two –

I just need to get my hands on a rustic leather jacket now Winking smile

I have a grey sweater almost identical to this one – I think I’ll be trying this out this week (once the weather warms up)

And, finally, loving the polka dots and ruffles here. Every time I see polka dots it reminds me of my grandpa. He loved polka dots.  This is such a girly outfit, I just love it.

Now that I’ve pasted these here, I’m also seeing more than just a jeans trend – neutrals, feminine, etc.

It’s interesting to see what your tastes are when you’re picking without thinking about anything other than “hmmm…. I like that” and then you see the pattern that emerges.

Now to go plunder in my closets and see what I can come up with…

Very Pin-teresting!

Hey y’all – sorry I’ve been silent this week.  Took a little holiday and went to see Mom and then when we got home it was a little crazy around here. And every time I thought to write a blog post my brain would go blank. Rather than posting junk, I just stayed silent.

Today, though, I’m trying to relax and enjoy a little peace and quiet at home with the girls. SuperMan has a class this weekend all weekend so we’re girls-only around here for now.  That means PJ’s, hot tea, girl movies and some craftiness I’m sure.  It’s cold and rainy this morning, too, so I have no incentive to get outside and do anything.  The world will have to wait.

Very Pin-Teresting

I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite pins with you – things I’ve pinned lately to try (or have tried).

New Things to Cook

(View my pin board here)

Grilled Mozzarella Sandwiches on garlic bread, serve with a side of marinara. Why have I never thought of this?

  • Does this not look heavenly? Grilled mozzarella cheese sandwiches served up with a side of marinara! It’s like a personal pizza – sounds so good.
  • And I’ve always wanted to try a Texas Sheet Cake – they look sooo sweet, though. This one might be better? It’s a lightened-up version.
  • I remember Mama making cabbage rolls when we grew up – I didn’t like the cabbage but I loved the stuffing. I might try these for the girls.
  • This peach cobbler-cake looks really, really good. I may have to try this with some frozen peaches sometime soon.

One Last Thing

And I’ll leave you with one little bit of silliness – I still laugh when I read this:

Menu Plan Monday: Trying new things

I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately with regards to cooking. Not really in the mood to cook the “same old same old” and not really up to trying a bunch of time-intensive new recipes.  I’ve really been in the mood for quick and simple, you know what I mean?

But I spent some time on Pinterest the other day (what a great way to pass the time and pretend you’re being productive, right?) and I found some great new recipes I want to try. I thought I’d share some of them with you here today.  I’m planning to try some over the next couple weeks – adding one or two into the rotation.  As you know, I put together a pretty exhaustive list last week of some of the family favorites I plan to cook in the next month.

image

This will make things more interesting – mixing up some of the old standbys with some new recipes.

MPM-Fall_thumb.png

Chicken Alfredo Roll-Ups Spring Ramen Chicken Soup
Grilled Cheeseburger Wraps Baked Ravioli
Cheddar Chicken Bacon Ranch Pasta Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks

I think I’ll have fun trying these out – and that the family will enjoy them – especially the soup and roll-ups. Those are high on my list of things to try.

What about you?

Anything new you’re trying this week?

A little Pinning going on

I admit it – I’m a Pinterest addict. I love it.  I love the visual stimulation. I love the myriad ideas. I love the variety.

I thought I’d share some of my recent pins with you – some of the projects/recipes I’ve got on my “to do” list for the near future.

Recipes to try:

Fall things to do/try:

  • I love this fall wreath.
  • and these pumpkins are just beautiful. May have to steal SuperMan’s drill…
  • this table-topper is simple and beautiful.
  • and this fall trail mix looks really good. May make some of these for the kids to share with friends.

From my kitchen

Today is my crazy busy day – for work and for the girls.  Both of them have dance class and I have an afternoon of back-to-back conference calls. It makes for one tired mommy in the evening, that’s for sure.

To combat that, I try to do a little prep work ahead of time in the morning – preparing something yummy & healthy for dinner and planning out whatever else I need to for the rest of the day. It just saves my sanity and helps me to enjoy being with my kids more rather than stressing out and being cranky.

Today, I changed up my planned dinner. Usually, Thursdays are leftover nights (because it is easier to warm things up than cook from scratch when you’re running back and forth between school & the dance studio. can I get an amen?)

But today, I was thinking about the jumbo pack of mini-sub rolls I got at the warehouse store the other day… the same mini-sub rolls I just knew the girls would love for cute little sandwiches for lunch.  And the very same mini-sub rolls they most definitely do not like for their lunches – as evidenced by the returned, uneaten sandwiches two days this week. Sigh.

So, I was trying to figure out how I was going to use those rolls before they became a science experiment on my counter.  I don’t eat (much) bread and SuperMan is trying to cut back… which leaves quite the dilemma. Until you start to think about things like… garlic bread!

So, once my mind went to garlic bread, I decided to try out this new recipe I’d found on Pinterest – it’s for a crock pot ravioli casserole.  Perfect! And because I’m-a good-a little-a Italian girl, I have all the ingredients on  hand. (wink, wink)img_1962

With dinner planned out, I decided to tackle another looming kitchen problem. Bread.  I have gotten back on the wagon of making my own bread; partly to help Big Girl’s tummy issues and partly because it’s just so darn good.  But the problem is that Little Bit doesn’t like it and SuperMan isn’t wild about it (he’ll eat it, but I think he only does it because he doesn’t want to hurt my feelings).  They say it is too dense. Which, ironically, is what Big Girl and I love about it.

ANYWAY – I rummaged around and found an old bread recipe and decided to whip up another batch to see if I could make a lighter loaf.

img_1963

I made one as a cinnamon raisin bread and the other plain.  They’re cooling on the counter now, so we will see what the troops think when they return home tonight.img_1968

They sure SMELL GOOD – between the garlic and the bread, my house smells SO GOOD right now.

And speaking of garlic – here’s another fallen soldier:img_1967

I am going to have to start counting how many of these I go through in a year. I think I open a new one about every 2 months.

No vampire problems here, that’s for sure.

So, what’s going on in your kitchen this week?

Pinterest Love

I love Pinterest.

Love it.

I love it for the ideas I find – crafty ideas, scrapbooking ideas, things to do with the kids ideas, but mostly, I love it for the food ideas. I love it so much, in fact, that I have set up several boards that are food related:

And then, of course, I have some seasonal-specific pins on my seasonal boards (i.e. Fall, Summertime, etc)  It’s like having a huge online cookbook.  With pictures!

image

I’m determined to, at some point, cook or try most of these things. I usually sit down on the weekend and try to pick out a couple to try the next week.  Some are more successful than others.  Those, I typically try to share with you.

Here are some that I am hoping to try really soon:

Are you a Pinterest addict?  If you are, what are some of your favorite pins?  Do you have any that were smashing successes?  Or dismal failures?

Totally Random Thoughts on a Rainy Wednesday

It’s raining, it’s pouring…

img_1343

I wish I was snoring…

imgp4273

Or, rather, I could very easily be snoring…

Rain makes me sleepy. Oh, so sleepy.

But it makes my flowers oh, so pretty.

imgp4274

In other totally random thoughts…

  • There’s been a fly in my house since I had all the doors/windows open on Saturday. He is driving me crazy because I’m starting to wonder if he is smarter than me since I can’t seem to kill him. I feel like he is taunting me…
  • My house is full of hormones and angst.  It is beginning to be a little challenging to remain calm and balanced. It makes me want to run and hide in my closet.
  • Nancy Grace makes me crazy. She is just a little bit too over-the-top for me, especially at 7 in the morning. I like Good Morning America but she makes me want to change the channel every time she comes on the air.
  • I had some oatmeal for breakfast this morning (exciting, I know) – and it wasn’t until after I’d fixed it that I realized I’d put cinnamon sugar on top of “reduced sugar” oatmeal.  Don’t think the irony escaped me.  Oh well. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
  • I’m totally hooked on The Voice. It’s the first one of these type shows that has captured my attention for more than 30 seconds.  I love watching those guys – especially to see what CeeLo and Christina’s outfits will be for the night.  And let’s not forget looking at the eye candy on the end of the row… yes, we’ve had some interesting conversations, SuperMan and I, while watching that show. hee hee
  • Who really cares about Pippa Middleton and her antics? Is this what the newscasters have to occupy their time with because the Royals are behaving themselves? I mean, really.  She’s a young girl who is having a good time and enjoying life. Let it be, people. I’m sure you never did anything stupid in your youth, either…

Okay… I think I’ll stop here before I scare you all away.  I’ve got a recipe for you later this week – an amalgamation of two of my favorite Pinterest recipes. Stay tuned for some goodness.

It’s Monday… again.

Hello, all, and happy Monday (I think – it is probably too early to tell just yet)

After a happy, but busy, weekend, we’re kicking off the week with a countdown to spring break… the girls and I can hardly wait.  Not waking up at 5 AM is certainly something to look forward to! We have not finalized our plans yet… they have changed several times in the past week or so and so I’ve just about decided to not worry about PLANS and just roll with the tide. Maybe we’ll stay home, maybe we’ll go somewhere. Just not sure yet.

Planning some grill cooking this week – the weather is so beautiful, it is hard to resist dinner on the grill. On Saturday, we cooked our entire meal on the grill. I made these yummy three-cheese potato pockets. They were so good. Although, next time I make them, I’ll probably only put the onion in the pocket for SuperMan. Too much onion for the girls and me. But yummy nonetheless.

img_1255

We grilled ribs, corn (wrapped in foil and slathered with butter) and the potato pockets. It was a yummy, yummy dinner. Made especially good because there were very few dirty pots to wash. (my dishwasher is dead)

Sunday night we had guests for dinner – our friends from our Bible Study group at church.  I made a nacho bar. I have to say that this is a terrific idea when you are feeding a crowd. I would think it would be great for a bunch of teens, too.

I made shredded “taco” chicken in the crock pot on Saturday and then browned ground beef on Sunday for a second crock pot-full.  We had toppings galore – cilantro, onion, lettuce, olives, cheese, jalapeños, three kinds of salsa, and on and on and on.  I also made a cheese dip with some Velveeta and salsa.  Yeah, not the healthiest, but it sure was good. Smile

I served this warm bean dip as a side item, but most of us just put it on our nachos. It was a huge hit (another one of my finds from Pinterest)

Everyone was able to fix their own plate of nachos to their liking. I have to say, there were very few leftovers and I like it that way!

This week I’m still working out my menu plan – so far I know we’ll be doing the following:

Monday: Creamy chicken & rice (crock pot)

Tuesday: Leftovers from Sunday – probably turned into quesadillas

Wednesday: Asian Chicken Salad (new recipe for us) – I’ll share this recipe later this week. It’s a yummy salad recipe shared by a friend. After I’ve made it, I’ll let you know all about it!

Thursday: Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak (new recipe for us) Big Girl has a doctor’s appt for her tummy so we will go with slow cooker recipes to make it easier for mama.

Friday: Pizza night

Saturday:  Grilled goodness (not sure what yet)
