Things I’m loving right now

Aside from the warmer weather, here are a few things that make my heart go pitter-patter right now:

chocolate bars

Asher’s Sugar Free Chocolates

I stumbled across these in WalMart the other day. They are the best-tasting sugar free chocolates I’ve found. Perfect for one of “those days” when only chocolate will make things better.

If you have any diabetics or post WLS patients that you love, these would be a great gift.

They have a caramel-marshmallow confection that reminds me a lot of the scotchmallows I used to love.

Bare Escentuals Buxom Lip Gloss

I think I shared this before as something I love.  This is one of the only lip glosses I’ve ever used that doesn’t dry out my lips and make them feel gunky.

They stay in my purse all the time – love them.

Click Espresso Protein Drink Powder 16 oz (448 g)

I can’t live without my Click these days. I have one almost every day. There is a chocolate mocha flavor (think coffee + hot chocolate) and a vanilla latte flavor. I love them both.  I make them cold and then heat them in the microwave for a minute or two to have my own “starbucks-esque” drink that fills me up, gives me tons of energy and a great protein boost to my day.

purity made simple

This is my go-to cleanser these days.  I love how gentle it is on my sensitive skin and yet how it just decimates the makeup and grime of the day.  My face feels fresh and clean when I use it and my moisturizer absorbs readily – without the need for a toner step in my day.

Speaking of moisturizers…

hope in a jar

I love this one. I am truly a Philosophy girl when it comes to my skincare routine. Love how they go on so easily and you don’t have that gunky feeling like some moisturizers have.

And this cute little recipe book – I’m in love:C.R. Gibson Bon Appetit Recipe Organizer, 4 x 6-Inch

I’ve bought three of them and I’m putting all my recipes in them.

There’s a blue version, too, if that suits your fancy (or kitchen decor) better:

CR Gibson Blue Plate Special Pocket Page Recipe Book

They’re just too cute – and I love the three-ring binding so I can move things around quickly and the pages lie flat when I’m using it.

What about you? What sort of things are you loving these days?

Spring’s Tease

It’s been warm here this week.

In the 70’s the last couple days.IMGP2563_edited-1

It’s been wonderful.

I feel like a bear coming out of hibernation.

I want to sit outside and soak up the sun, feel the breeze on my face and listen to the birdies chirp.

*achoo*

and sneeze.

darn allergies.

But –

as I sit and soak up the rays and revel in the milder temperatures, there is a part of me that wonders if it is all really, truly happening…

or is this just a tease?

Will we have another spring “blizzard” like we did in ‘93 when we were snowed in for a week in April?

One never knows.

I’m kinda thinking we might.

But, until then, I’ll enjoy what we have.

Some favorites

I thought I’d share some of my favorite (recent) blog posts with you –

There have been quite a few with some really good information in the past couple weeks and I thought I’d pass them on to you.

So, if you have a few minutes, take a look around – and I’d love it if you’d share some of your favorite blog posts with me in the comments!

Menu Plan Monday ~ 7 Feb (Sort of)

Ugh.

I am overwhelmed today. My brain is swirling with all the things I need to do, should do, and want to do.  Things like pay bills, do laundry, meetings for work and taxes. Plus the creative side is looking for a little outlet and my book is calling to be finished.

I hate it when I feel this way.

In computer terms, it’s called “thrashing.” When your CPU has so many requests for activities that it slices up tiny little bits of time to allocate to each request, but the slices of time are so small that nothing ever really gets accomplished. And so, the programs keep requesting time and the computer just kind of “hangs” because of all the requests.

Yeah, that’s how my brain feels.

I am almost stuck – which is the most important? where do I start?

THAT is the question.

I think, for me, I’m going to start with some tea and breakfast.

Maybe write everything down so that it is not swirling in my brain but is approachable as a checklist.

From there, well, we’ll see.

I really need two of me. But I am not sure I could stand another one of me running around, either. (and I’m pretty sure my family couldn’t either)

Dinner this week?  Goodness, that is somewhere on that list… not totally sure yet.

I know we will have leftover spaghetti (left over from our new Sunday dinner tradition) and steak is on the menu tonight.  Maybe some chicken fettuccine alfredo one night. Beyond that? I don’t know yet.  We have a lot of leftovers to finish off, so I am thinking that may round out the week.

Honestly?

Food is the least of my concerns today.

Just How Many?

SuperMan had a couple of rain out days this week. He spent some time rearranging and decluttering things – that’s what he likes to do…strange, I know.

Anyway, as he was doing so, we realized one thing -  I have a LOT of crock pots.

I don’t think I’ve made any secret of my love of crock pots – and the fact that I use them very frequently – often 2 or 3 times a week.  Whoever invented the crock pot has my undying love. It is a busy mom’s dream come true (that and about 4 hrs of uninterrupted sleep).

Most people I know have one crock pot. If they have any at all.

Me?

Well, let’s just say I’m an overachiever.

ahem.

Yeah, let’s say that.

Before I show you how many I have, let me tell you this – I have only purchased one of these (maybe two, I can’t remember)  myself.  The rest have been gifts.  Well loved, greatly appreciated gifts. (someone knew they key to my heart was through cooking appliances)

And, truthfully, I use every single one of them.

They all have a purpose to which they are best suited and I love putting them to use – especially when it means I’m serving up some love to my family and friends.

Okay, enough stalling…

Here’s my crock pot family.

The girls tell me there is “Big Daddy,” “Momma,” “Big Sister,” and “Baby.”  I think the other one is a cousin or something.

hee hee

Yes, you do count FIVE crock pots.

But aren’t they a cute family?

It’s a nappy kind of day

Outside my window, it’s gloomy and grey. Low clouds full of mist hanging over the mountain and grey, sad skies. (as a matter of fact, you can’t even see the mountain)

IMGP3320It’s the first day the girls are back to school since the great blizzard last week. They were none too happy to be awakened early this morning and I think would’ve been quite happy to stay at home again today.

I had to chuckle, though, reading Facebook early this morning – all of the mommies celebrating the back to school day and the return of their routines and peaceful houses. I have to admit, I’m pretty happy about that as well, although I will miss the monkeys while they are at school.

A lot of mommies, I’m sure, are planning to catch up on some rest today – I am positive that (even if no one admits it) many moms take naps during the day. Especially if you have toddlers and they nap. I know I did when Little Bit was a toddler. Some days, you didn’t have a choice – I’d just collapse and fall asleep as I was trying to get her to fall asleep.

As I was thinking about that this morning, I wondered, do people have a favorite nap place?  Is there somewhere you love to nap?

For me, my favorite nap spot is on my sofa. If the kids are home, I can still hear them and know they are safe and happy. If no one is at home, I revel in the peace and quiet and the fact that I can snuggle down and still hear if anyone knocks on the door or drops off a package.

I am most definitely a napper.  I have been for as long as I can remember. I recognize that some days my body needs just a little more rest than others and I don’t think it’s weak to nap.

SuperMan, on the other hand, never naps. As a matter of fact, if he naps, I get worried and start planning a call to the doctor.  And if he does nap, it totally ruins his sleep that night. He’ll stay up way too late and then is even more tired the next day.

I don’t have that problem, fortunately, and usually sleep just fine after napping.

What about you?

Are you a napper?  Do you have a favorite nap spot?

Until tomorrow…

yawn…

Blogoholic

I love blogs.

I love reading about other people’s lives, their hobbies, thoughts and dreams. I love looking at the crafty projects they do and getting ideas for things I can do.

I thought I’d share with you some of my current favorite blogs.

Some are scrapbookers, some are not. They are all good and I look forward every day to seeing what’s new when I log in to my Reader.

There are more… many, many more.

But I thought I’d share a few of my current favorites with you.

Hop on over and check a few out.

And then let me know what some of your favorites are!

Makin’ a List

Total stream-of-consciousness post today…

Watched Eat, Pray,Love last night. I thought it was really good. There were a few slow parts, just like there were in the book, but overall it was a good movie.

I have to say that Julia Roberts is aging well. I think she still has that vulnerability that makes her such a bankable actress, but she is showing some maturity and, oh, I don’t know, “seasoning?” to her acting now. Or, maybe it was just the part? I’d like to think she is maturing… she is only a few years different in age than I am.

Still have no presents wrapped. How sad is that?!?

I am hoping to get them all done today. Planning on staying up late if I have to so I can get them done.

Only one more necessary outing before Christmas – a trip to the bank and stop at the grocery for a couple things that we didn’t get yesterday. (must go to a different store as my usual place didn’t have them in stock)image

Baking, cooking, and relaxing on tap for tomorrow. SuperMan is off for his usual three-day weekend, so we’ll be enjoying the day together and finishing it up at dinner with some friends and their family. I can’t wait. It is an annual tradition we’ve done since before we all had kids!

More JYC pages done:

JYC2010 - Page 012

JYC2010 - Page 007-blog

I blurred out the actual items on the list because I am not positive Big Girl doesn’t read my blog. No sense in taking chances. 🙂

I’m also including the “year in posts” from Facebook. I think it is a great year in review:

JYC2010 - Page 025I saved the image from Facebook and added it to a digital scrapbook page along with some journaling.

And a few of you have asked – yes, these are all digital pages I’m doing. My plan is to have an 8×8 book printed in January sometime.

So, what are your plans for the rest of the week? Are you running to and fro to visit folks or are you staying snuggled up at your own house? Or somewhere in between?

Pop that Corn, man!

One of the things I love about wintertime is the fact that I have an easy excuse to be a homebody.  I am a hermit by nature and wouldn’t leave my house if I could help it. I love my house and I love being at home.  When it is yukky and cold outside I have the easy out and can make plans for staying home by the fire with my kiddos.

Today we ran a bunch of errands, and, with the exception of groceries, we are DONE with our holiday preparations.  We’ll brave the grocery store on Wednesday morning, I think.

One of the things we picked up while we were out were a handful of movies to watch over the next few days. I love those Red Box kiosks.  What a great invention. Stop by, grab a couple videos and you’re only out a couple bucks. And if you don’t watch them by the next day? No worries. It’s only another dollar. Love it!

Anyway, here are the movies we have on tap for our viewing pleasure:

SuperMan and I saw this in the theater last summer. Loved it. Angelina Jolie is not one of my favorite people but she can really act and she does a great job with this movie.  I loved it. Powerful, yet vulnerable. In charge, yet, not.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to watch it again.

Also on the agenda:

Eat-pray-love-movie-poster

I actually can’t wait to see this one. I started the book, got distracted, and never went back to finish it. So, I’m looking forward to some closure with the movie.  I also like Julia Roberts a lot, so I’m thinking this will be an enjoyable watch.  I’m planning to watch it tonight after everyone goes to bed – while I wrap Christmas gifts.

Big Girl picked out one as well:

I think she picked it out because the girl is the same one in our all-time favorite movie Mama Mia! but I’ve been wanting to see it myself, so I was game.

Don’t know if we will watch this one tonight or tomorrow morning (or at least the girls would watch it tomorrow morning) – it will depend on SuperMan and whether he is game for a chick flick or not.

Have you seen any of these?

Thoughts, opinions?

Any other suggestions for other movies to watch while we’re on holiday break?

Focused

I was asked the other day if there is anything that gets in the way of my writing – My immediate response to this question is “Life.” Life gets in the way of my writing.

But then, when I stopped and thought about it and wondered if that is really true.

I think there are all sorts of time wasters that we all succumb to (Facebook, anyone?) that take away from the time we’d have to be doing other things. Things we should be doing or things we’d like to do but always feel like there is not enough time to do.

Now, granted, working full time, taking care of the house, the kids, the critters and a hunky SuperMan takes up a LOT of my time.  But, if I’m brutally honest with myself, there are things I can eliminate that would free up time for me to pursue other things I’d like to be doing more of.

Like exercising, reading, writing, and scrapbooking.

What sorts of things can I eliminate?

Laundry, mopping, taking showers….

No, wait, that won’t work.

But, I’m sure I could spend a little less time on Facebook.  A little less time watching TV.  A little less time piddling around on the internet.

But for me, the big thing that helps me to fit those important things into my life (as opposed to just the Urgent, or urgently-tempting-me things) is this:

FOCUS

Yep.

I was feeling very, very scattered last week, catching up from being on holiday for a week.  I just felt overwhelmed every single day at all the things I had to accomplish.  Bills to pay, laundry to do, spreadsheets and powerpoints to finish, reports to run and records to edit.  It seemed insurmountable and all I wanted to do was crawl back in bed and dream it all away.

For the first day or two, I didn’t do much different than that. I didn’t sleep, but I did everything I could to avoid reality. And I knew I was doing it.

Then, I woke up on Wednesday and told myself it was time to put on my big girl pants and get on with things.  Sometimes I have to do that – have a stern talk with myself.  (and sometimes I actually listen)

I sat down and made a list – well, two, actually. One personal and one for work. I listed at the top all the things that I had to do.  At the bottom, I listed all the things that I wanted to do. Those are two different lists. And it helped me to FOCUS on the things I needed to get done, while identifying and recognizing the other things I wanted to do as well.

I woke up Friday morning, for the first time all week, not feeling like I was at the bottom of a very tall hill that had to be climbed.

I was FOCUSED.

I knew what I had accomplished (love checking off those boxes!)

and I knew what was yet to be done.

It’s amazing to me how a simple little list can help me change my mindset so quickly. It seems archaic but it works. And that is all that really matters to me.

I’m FOCUSED.
