If…

MaryBeth_If

One of MB’s recent school projects was to complete a worksheet entitled “If.”  It is interesting to view the world from the eyes of an 8 year old.   To her, 20 is the ultimate age and Presidents go to Sweet and Sassy to get “butiful.”

I love that she is looking forward to growing up and going to college (crlig) and find it funny/sweet that she thinks at 20 she will have a home on the lake. (but who knows?)

She is clever – and had decided that if she only had one wish it would be to wish for never ending wishes…. wouldn’t we all?

Here are my answers to her quiz.

  1. If I could be any age I would be… the age I am now. because I’m happy here.
  2. If I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is pay off our bills and invest the rest wisely.
  3. If I could have one wish, I would wish for my children to have happy and productive lives full of health and joy-filled experiences.
  4. If I could be the President of the US I would retire. Immediately. That has got to be the worst job in the world to have.
  5. If I could meet any movie star or sports star, I would choose this is a hard one… there aren’t any that I would really care one way or another about meeting.

What would yours be?

I’ve been teaching myself digital scrapbooking.  I have to admit, I thought I would never get into scrapping digitally.  I spend all day working on a computer, why would I want to do something for fun on the computer as well?  But, then I started seeing other digital pages… and I went to a retreat where a gal was cropping only digitally.  I couldn’t believe how good her pages looked.  You almost couldn’t tell that they were not “traditional” scrapbook pages.  And… the big clincher – I realized nothing is consumable, everything is reusable.  I started to think about the economics of that, as well as the fact that there is WAY less mess, clutter, and stuff to cart around.  Going to a crop? Take your laptop and go. No more broken back!

I’ve been using Creative Memories’ program (I just can’t get past the learning curve in PhotoShop)  and I love it.  It’s called StoryBook Creator.  There’s a free download version and a purchased version.  The free version only allows you to use predesigned pages and drop your pictures in.  That’s great if you don’t consider yourself technologically savvy.  The predesigned pages are really nice (there are even free ones you can download and use).  However, I quickly found that I wanted to tweak my pages a little bit.  The upgrade to the StoryBook Creator+ version is not that expensive and well worth the investment.

There are virtually unlimted options.  I am amazed at the fact that I keep finding new, cool things to do to my pages.  Like a diecut, but don’t like the color? Change it!

I have also discovered that I can download virtually any .png graphic and use it in SBC+.  This opens up the entire internet, which is full of all sorts of downloadable items for use in scrapbook pages. Scrapbook.com has some really nice page elements you can download – some are even free.  I also love the fact that everything I purchase from Creative Memories is color-coordinated by theme.  Makes it really easy to mix and match elements to achieve the custom look I like.

So, I’m probably about 5 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to digital scrapbooking, but I have to say, I love it.  I don’t think I’ll ever give up traditonal scrapbooking completely, however. There’s something about the tactile sense of moving paper around and cutting/pasting things that is very relaxing to me.  But when I’m in the mood to scrap and not in the mood to make a mess, digital works for me.

Political Dreams

I had a very strange dream last night.  In my dream, I was in a very plush executive boardroom with a bunch of old, obviously wealthy men.  As they sat around the table sipping their highballs, various names floated around the table…
“Hillary – been there, done that,”
“Sarah – too out there.”
As the mumblings and mutterings continued, one name began to ring louder than the others.  “Dole – yes, that’s a good choice.”

Uh…. what?

Jump to the next scene where I’m at some big political rally-type thing.  Elizabeth Dole is there and she’s glad-handing and workin’ the crowd as she makes her way to the stage.
She walks by me and I am shaking her hand effusively and telling her how I’ve always admired her…dole

Ok, what DID I eat right before bedtime?

As she nears the stage the announcer says, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the next President of the United States, Elizabeth Dole!”

HUH?

Cut to the next scene…. I’m riding in a truck (in the back of the truck) with R in the POURING down rain, holding some dining room furniture while he lashes it into place (yes, as we are driving down the road… it’s a dream, you know) and I’m telling him how excited I am that Elizabeth Dole is our new president… how wonderful she will be and how awesome it is that there is a woman leading our country today.

The TV (I don’t know, it’s a dream, remember) announcer is telling us that she is appointing an all-woman cabinet and has asked any staffers who have served for more than 2 years to step down to make room for “fresh faces.”  And then…

I woke up. *sigh*

Of course, THEN I was laying there in bed for a looong time wondering why in the heck am I dreaming about politics, Elizabeth Dole, and whatever happened to an election?

I don’t know the answers, but you have to admit that having a woman in charge might just be the thing this country needs to straighten us out…

Tonight, no more M&Ms before bed. I promise.

Happy July 4th (almost)

This is a way cool video… Wish I could have edible fireworks!

Enjoy and Happy 4th of July!

Right this minute

I’m thinking about: what’s for dinner

I’m looking at: a pile of work still to be done on my desk

I’m wishing for: the publisher’s clearinghouse people to show up at my door (who cares if I didn’t enter?)

I would like to: spend the rest of the day scrapbooking or napping (or a combination of the two)

I’m hoping: that my little one gets well soon
